Mu‘umu‘u
Relax at home with a traditional mu‘umu‘u
The mu‘umu‘u is a traditional Hawaiian dress with a rich and cultured history. The loose fit and its beautiful fabric styles make the mu‘umu‘u a lovely dress to wear at home or at a Hawaiian themed party. Typically made out of cotton, this airy dress is comfortable and easy to move around in. In Japan, the mu‘umu‘u is typically worn at sauna and spa hotels as a relaxing outfit.
The mu‘umu‘u often boasts of tropical prints, but there are other styles as well. Some decorative designs have lace and ribbon trimmings for a sweet look. Others combine tropical floral prints with solids for an interesting design. Hawaiian plaid, which is called palaka, are also popular.
Customizable Mu’umu’u
There are many types of mu‘umu‘u available. For example, you can find them with half or long sleeves. Older women usually prefer long sleeves for sun protection. Other designs use lace sleeves, which give a more elegant look. As for length, they are typically floor length but ankle or tea length are available as well, which is perfect for Hawai‘i’s warm weather.
